Qamīs: Fragments of Dress

Qamīs is the second edition of Fragmenta. Through the shirt, it explores the systems of knowledge, labor, and material culture that shape dress across the Eastern Mediterranean.
A shirt begins long before it becomes a garment. Fibre is spun into thread. Thread is woven into textile. Textile is measured, cut, and assembled. Each stage involves materials, skills,tools,people, and places.
Qamīs follows this sequence to look at how a garment is made and the knowledge that surrounds its making.

The garment, explored zone by zone through its materials, components, construction, and forms.
The landscape, through site-specific installations that connect the shirt to histories of place, exchange, labor, and culture.
